ACADÉMIE BAROQUE DE VERSAILLES, FIRST EDITION 6-11 JULY 2020

In summer 2020, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles organizes its first Académie baroque de Versailles. The aim is to create THE event for all people who play, dance or sing French music from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The dance department, coordinated by Karin Modigh and Natalie van Parys, is open to professional dancers (all styles and training backgrounds), pre-professional dancers, dance students and dance teachers. It is also open to a larger audience with an advanced training level in baroque dance.

The Académie baroque de Versailles will offer:
– A full-time programme of courses for discovering, exploring or deepening skills in the Belle Danse*
– An artistic exchange with the best musicians and choreographers working within baroque performing arts
– An opportunity for young dancers to meet other professionals and create connexions for the future

*Belle Danse?
Commonly called “baroque dance”, this style is at the source of the European academic dance. Thanks to the Beauchamps-Feuillet notation, a large repertoire of theatrical and ballroom dances were written down, and today they offer us the opportunity to interpret and practice this precise, refined and musical dance technique.
